Workers' injuries: CAL/OSHA investigating California house fire

Firefighters in California and across the country have one of the most dangerous jobs in the country. The nature of the job is life-threatening in itself, making compliance with safety regulations a vital component in the prevention of workers' injuries. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health reported that it will investigate a recent incident that occurred at a house fire in Sacramento.

Reportedly, firefighters were called to the burning house at approximately 3 a.m. on a recent Tuesday. They managed to contain the fire within 15 minutes, and because it was an empty house, no lives but those of the firefighters were in danger. However, the person who operated the nozzle of the hose entered the burning house first and suffered burn injuries.

According to a report by the fire department, the employee suffered those injuries despite the fact that he was wearing a full set of required personal protective gear at the time. His injuries, which were at first thought to be minor, turned out to be serious. He was rushed to the UC Davis Firefighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center.

Burns are some of the most traumatic workers' injuries to suffer. Long-term treatment is often necessary, and it might cause extended periods of absence from work. Fortunately, workers' compensation benefits are available to cover medical expenses and a significant percentage of lost wages. While an injured worker recuperates, the skills of an experienced California workers' compensation attorney can help to navigate benefits claims with the insurance provider.
