Fatal construction worker accident claims life of 52-year-old man

Whenever a worker's life is lost on the job, the shock often affects more people than just the surviving family members. Co-workers who witness a fatal construction worker accident can be severely traumatized, so much so that they might need medical treatment. A recent incident in California led to the cessation of construction activities after a workplace fatality, and crisis counselors were provided for distressed co-workers.

According to authorities, a part of a drill rig struck a 52-year-old construction worker in the chest on a recent Wednesday at approximately 11 a.m. Reportedly, the man was part of a crew working on the building of a massive project involving a border crossing. The worker was unconscious after he was knocked off a platform, which was raised roughly 2 feet.

A spokesperson for the police says onlookers attempted to provide CPR while awaiting the arrival of emergency workers from the fire department. Sadly, their efforts were in vain, as the injured man succumbed to his injuries even before he could be transported to a hospital. The coroner identified the employee as a resident of Wyoming.

While the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health investigates the fatal construction worker accident, the surviving family members are free to pursue financial relief by filing death benefits claims with the workers' compensation insurance program. Families in similar circumstances have found it helpful to consult with an experienced workers' comp attorney to assist with the navigation of such claims. Co-workers who were traumatized and required treatment may also file benefits claims to recover medical expenses.
