Bricklayer suffers critical workplace injuries in scaffold fall

The safety of scaffolding structures at construction sites in California is vital for the prevention of workplace injuries. Unfortunately, some employers fail to recognize the importance of compliance with safety regulations, and construction site accidents are not uncommon. A scaffolding accident in another state recently caused workplace injuries to two construction workers.

According to an incident report, two bricklayers were on a scaffold at the fourth story of a dormitory building at the campus of a university. Reportedly, one of the boards on the scaffolding structure broke, injuring one worker and causing the other worker to fall. The distance that the man fell was estimated to be 35 feet.

This worker suffered critical injuries, and he was rushed to a hospital. The other worker who was on the scaffold with him fell on the structure, and she suffered only minor injuries for which she received medical treatment at a hospital. This accident is reported to be under investigation. Investigators will likely look into the safety of the scaffolding structure on which the employees were working.

Any workplace injuries can have severe financial consequences related to medical expenses. If the injuries are severe enough to cause hospitalization and absence from work, loss of income may also be devastating. For assistance with such complications, injured victims are free to file benefits claims with the California workers' compensation insurance system. Expenses resulting from covered medical treatment will be included in the benefits awarded, along with a portion of the wages lost during hospitalization and recovery before returning to work.
