Stuntman of Shooter series suffers workers' injuries on set

Construction, mining, transport industries are known to be hazardous. However, workers' injuries can occur in any line of employment. The California Division of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration reported that an injury occurred in the film industry recently. The information was confirmed by an official of the filming company.

According to Cal/OSHA, a stuntman was knocked down by a car that was driven by actor Tom Sizemore. This incident occurred while Paramount Television was filming scenes for the Shooter TV series at the Agua Dulce Airpark. After being struck, the stuntman was apparently trapped underneath the car.

The injured man was extricated and flown from the scene to a medical facility. No information about the severity of his injuries or his condition was made available. A spokesperson for Cal/OSHA reported that Paramount Television/Shooter -- who is the injured stuntman's employer -- will be interviewed to obtain more information about the circumstances surrounding the accident. Investigators will determine whether the crash resulted from the disregard of safety violations.

Employees in the film industry in California have the same rights to compensation as workers in other sectors. Benefits claims may be filed with the workers' compensation insurance system. Medical expenses and wage replacement are typically paid to injured workers. Compensation for lost income is usually based upon the average weekly wage of the injured worker. In cases in which long-term treatment or absence from work is caused by workers' injuries, additional compensation may be awarded through the insurance program.
